WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker today released the following statement on Governor Bredesen’s request for a presidential disaster declaration for 52 Tennessee counties affected by this past weekend’s storm:

“Local, state, and federal first responders have done a first-rate job in this time of great crisis across so many Tennessee counties to save lives and property after this weekend’s terrible flooding and storm damage. We thank them for their hard work and dedication. Senior staff members from both our offices are in Tennessee working closely with local and state officials to help people get back on their feet, and we will work to ensure that Governor Bredesen's request for a presidential disaster declaration is swiftly approved and federal help quickly provided to the state of Tennessee.”
