A mobile disaster recovery unit returned to Hohenwald’s Emergency Management facility on Commerce Drive, Wednesday.

Individuals with damages to homes may call 1-800-621-3362, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. to register a claim.   Or register for assistance by visitingwww.disasterassistance.gov.  Those with speech or hearing disabilities, TTY 800-462-7585.

Federal Emergency Management Agency funds may be available to assist homeowners, EMA Director Daniel B. Atkinson said.  “Homeowners are still responsible for repair costs,” he said.

Homeowners are asked to be especially mindful of potential mold issues in homes which became wet in flooding on May 2, 2010.  Things that stayed wet for two days have mold groing on them even if its not visible, FEMA officials said.  Bleach is recommended for use to remove mold (no more than one cup of bleach in one gallon of water.)  Items bleached should be rinsed with clean water and dried.

The mobile unit will be at the EMA facility Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day before moving to the County Red Cross, 181 Prosser Rd., Lawrenceburg on Saturday and Sunday.

A meeting was planned for today, Thursday, in Mt. Pleasant for public assistance information for cities and counties with infrastructure needs.  EMA  Director Atkinson was expected to attend as were Highway Commissioner Ronnie Darnell, Fire Chief Steve Vineyard and City Chief of Operations Sam Livingston.
