Hunters for the Hungry Program Ramps Up for Hunting Season

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

With archery season underway, and muzzleloader season open November 7 - 20, the Tennessee Wildlife Federation (TWF) is encouraging hunters contribute to the Hunters for the Hungry (HFTH) program during the 2009-2010 deer hunting season.

Due to the generous donations to HFTH in different counties across the state, deer processing fees could be free to those who donate harvested deer. The program now has volunteers in select counties that have been raising funds to pay the processing fee for donated venison. These funds were donated from businesses, churches, civic groups and personal contributions.

TWF is updating the HFTH portion of its website weekly with the list of processors who have funds available for free processing.  Click here to see who has available funds.

Even if your local processor does not have funds for free processing available, please consider donating your excess venison.  All processors participating in the program offer discounted rates for deer donated to HFTH.  Hunters also have the opportunity to choose the “pound or pack” method of donation, in which they can drop off a portion of processed venison to a Hunters for the Hungry designated freezer.

Additionally, you can contribute to the program with cash by answering “yes” when a license agent asks if you want to contribute $1 to the program (if they don’t ask, ask them why!).  You can also ask the agent to increase the amount.
