Kenny Durham and the Rocky Mountain High Band “Take Me Home” concert

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Kenny Durham and the Rocky Mountain High Band will return home to the Strand Theatre for a live performance on January 16, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.  Kenny, a loyal supporter of the Strand Theatre, gave a sell out benefit concert during the Strand’s first season.

“That was a night to remember,” said Strand business manager Tony Turnbow.  “The theatre was filled to capacity.  The local people enjoyed seeing the show in that setting and people from out of town were genuinely impressed with Kenny’s ability to recreate the John Denver sound and style.  For several, the show brought back great memories from their younger days in the seventies.”

The life of a musician means a lot of traveling and time away from friends and family which is one of the reasons this concert is so special to Kenny, he’s back home. “There’s nothing like a good old home town crowd to make you feel excited and ready to play,” said Kenny.  “It’s kind of like getting a shot of love in the arm.”

Kenny will be joined by the Rocky Mountain High Band, a group of talented musicians including Terry Peevyhouse on bass; Michael Vincent vocals, fiddle, piano, and mandolin; James Frank steel guitar, dobro and guitar; and  Josh Watkins on percussion.  Accomplished musicians all, each brings their own unique experience and passion to Kenny’s songs.

This concert is a tribute to John Denver.  Those familiar with Kenny and his work know while most boys his age were listening to Rock and Roll, Kenny listened to John Denver. He played his music over and over again while delivering papers on his paper route.

“You could tell what was going on in John’s life by listening to his music.  He taught me that staying true to what you believe in and staying committed would bring you peace,” commented Kenny.  John’s tragic death affected Kenny deeply and inspired him to write “Good-Bye-John,” a tribute song about John Denver.  In addition to John Denver tunes and some original material Kenny will also perform some cuts from his new CD “Live at Keg Springs” which will be available for purchase in the Strand Gallery.

This concert has all the makings of another sell out performance for Kenny and the Strand.  Kenny will divide his proceeds from this concert with the Strand showing his commitment to keeping quality entertainment alive and well in Lewis County.

The concert is sponsored by The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee and the Hohenwald Animal Hospital, Dr. Steven Scott.  Reserved and general admission seating is available.  Doors open at 6:30 for the 7:00 p.m. show.  The Strand’s ticket outlet is Memory Junction Antique Company, 27 S. Maple.  The Strand Events Line is 931-295-3076.
