Maury Regional infertility support group discusses latest in infertility treatments

Thursday, August 20th, 2009
Julie Heffington, childbirth education coordinator at Maury Regional Medical Center, will discuss the latest trends and research in infertility treatments at the next Infertility Support Group meeting. The meeting will be held on Thursday, August 27, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the fourth floor classroom of the medical center.

Heffington will attend the SMART ART™ X confernce in Orlando, Florida, this month, and bring back the latest information on assisted reproductive technology (ART) developments.

“New advancements in assisted reproductive technologies are announced every year. It is important for couples struggling with infertility to know the latest options available to them,” said Heffington.

Heffington will share her knowledge gleaned from the conference’s nationally accredited sessions about new agents, procedures, psychosocial issues and counseling techniques contributing to the continued success of ART. The conference will also feature new updates on in vitro fertilization laboratory procedures.

“Approximately 6.1 million couples in the United States, or 10 percent of all couples of childbearing age, have difficulty conceiving. In the Maury Regional Infertility Support Group, we discuss the options available to those who are trying to conceive. There is also a tremendous benefit to being able to bond with others who understand the trials and challenges of infertility based on their own personal experiences.”

The Infertility Support Group is open to any couple experiencing difficulty conceiving. Each meeting, participants learn about and discuss topics such as infertility treatments, medications, nutrition, exercise, in vitro fertilization, intra-uterine insemination and much more.
