A Hohenwald teenager drowned in Buffalo River June 6, 2010 while on a canoe trip with friends.

According to Kenneth Martin, lead investigator for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Robert Mosley, 16, a brother and sister, Cody and Amy Frizzell, and Harvey Hensley had been canoeing down the river and stopped at a sand bar at the end of Harris Road in Wayne County to picnic and swim.

One of the teenagers stated they left a camera in the canoe across the river. Mosley began swimming across to retrieve the camera but began screaming for help before he reached the canoe. The others dove in to try to rescue Mosley but could not find him.

Wayne County dispatchers received the called at 6:12 p.m. and officers arrived on the scene at 6:33 p.m. The body was rescued at 9:45 p.m. by the “Bad Boyz” Rescue Diving Team of Lawrenceburg.

Investigator Martin stated for the last two weekends, this was the second canoe related fatality on the Buffalo River.
