Terry Coop

William Terry Coop, age 78 of Hohenwald, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 9, 2020, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
He was born on April 11, 1941 in Tullahoma to the late William Harlan Coop and Mary Louise (Grammar) Coop.
He spent his life in service to his country. On June 2, 1966, he was released from the Air Force Reserves and enlisted in the United States Air Force on July, 29, 1966 where he went to McGill Air Force Base. He volunteered for Vietnam in 1967 and was sent to Tonghutt Air Force Base in Saigon, Vietnam where he served 13 months in the country, from 1967-1968. In total he served 35 years with the Air Force and Army National Guard, retiring April 11, 2001. During this tenure, he obtained the rank SSgt/E-5 and numerous decorations, medals, badges and ribbons which include the Presidential Unit Citation Award in 1967 for combat in Vietnam during the Tet offensive, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon W/2, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Kilpatrick) Coop; sister, Jean Zimmermann; several brothers- and sisters-in-laws, and several nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Coop; infant brother, Thomas Coop; brother, Harlan Coop; and sister, Charlotte Zimmermann.
A private burial took place in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the McDonald Funeral Home to help with burial expenses.
