"J.B." Quillen

Joe "J.B." Banks Quillen, age 86, a resident of the Brushy community in Hickman County, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020.

A celebration of life service will be held at Brushy Church of Christ at a later date with inurnment at Brushy Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Born on January 9, 1934 in Lewis County, Joe was the son of the late Albert Quillen and the late Edna Banks Quillen. An Army veteran, J.B. served his country bravely in the Korean War. After the war, he worked at Genesco in Hohenwald and later retired as a maintenance supervisor for St. Thomas Hickman Hospital in Centerville.

He was married for 56 years to Hilda Jean Weatherspoon, who preceded him in death in 2009.

A devoted member of the Brushy Church of Christ, he often led the song service for the congregation. Joe was a handyman, who loved motorcycles, working in his yard, and listening to both Christian and Country music. He was also an avid deer hunter who loved picking blackberries.

He is survived by his fiancé, Frankie Bostick of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Gwen Rogers; son, Greg Quillen; sister, Paulette (Johnny) Atkinson, all of Centerville; sisters-in-law, Gail Quillen and Gin Quillen; brother-in-law, Elmo Campbell; grandchildren, Cody Quillen, Jordan Quillen and Heather Williams; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marsha Jo Quillen; brothers, Harold "Buster" (Jen) Quillen, Billy (Marie) Quillen and Bobby (Gail) Quillen, and sister, Linda (Elmo) Campbell.
