Joe Churchwell

Joseph "Joe" Samuel Churchwell Sr., age 87 of Hohenwald, passed away on May 4, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on November 11, 1932 to the late John Churchwell and Florence (LaRue) Churchwell. He graduated from Lewis County High School in 1952. After graduation he moved north to Ohio and worked for several years. He then returned to Hohenwald and opened Joe's One Stop, serving the surrounding counties, but becoming a staple of Lewis County.

All these years later, Joe's One Stop remains open and serving his neighbors. Joe was known to have some of the prettiest flowers and plants in Middle Tennessee. His knowledge and expertise helped many families grow bountiful gardens and flowers.

Joe also served as a Lewis County Commissioner for many years. And if you wanted to hear the latest scoop of happenings in Hohenwald, Joe's One Stop was the place to be. Many evenings his parking lot would be full of friends, sitting around and shooting the breeze or talking politics.

Joe leaves behind a grandson, Evan Matthew Webb, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence Churchwell; wife, Patsy Joyce Churchwell; son, Joseph "Sam" Churchwell Jr .; four brothers, Edward, Vestil, Richard and Ray Churchwell; and three sisters, Evla Grinder, Marie Miller and Edith Petty.

A graveside service was scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at 11 a.m. in the Loveless Cemetery.
