Mickey Walker

Mickey Wynell Smith Walker, age 88, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2020 in Lawrenceburg. She was born February 8, 1932 in Lawrenceburg to the late Nick and Zenoba Smith.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, John Farris Walker Jr.. and Bobby Ray Walker; daughter, Cynthia Lynn Skelton; three brothers; and three sisters.

Ms. Walker was a member of the Church of Christ since her early life. Her faith in God was her stronghold through many trials. Although her trials were many, she never failed to state how blessed her life had been.

She was a homemaker most of her life, bringing "homemaking" to an art form. Her joy was in her home and raising her children. She had a knack for making something out of nothing...making everything beautiful. She rarely saw anything that was not "pretty" to her.

After raising her children, she found her vocation in attending to the sick and handicapped. Physical fitness was important to her throughout her life. In her later years, she was so thankful that she could take care of her basic needs, walk, and care for her flower garden well into her 80s.

She had a firm hand grip from years of working hard and raising children and was always eager to demonstrate it at doctor visits and to family. She enjoyed bragging about her children and grandchildren. She loved to sit in the flower garden and watch the birds, the sky, and the sunset with intensity, describing each phase of the process and always seeing the beauty in it. She would close her eyes and describe the breeze across her face. She always enjoyed and appreciated the smallest and simplest things in life and this is something she has passed on to her family.

Ms. Walker leaves behind her daughters, Marynell Duke (Dicky) of Huron, Diane Ridge of Florida, Anita Young of Lexington, and Donna Brackeen of Hohenwald; a sister, Bonnie Lumpkins of Lawrenceburg; grandchildren, Stephanie Ridge, Molly Duke, Becky Duke, Jennifer Hatcher, Lori Turton, Lindsay Brackeen, Kendall Landers, Cole Brackeen, Chad Walker, Misty Kolmetz, and Eric Mathis; and great grandchildren, Ashton Brackeen, Emery Dabbs, Avery Dabbs, Ava Kibbe, Rylee Kibbe, Isabella Hatcher, Adelaide Hatcher, Lucas Hatcher, Amber Brooks, Madison Kolmetz, Tyler Kolmetz, Cindy Mathi, and David Mathis.

A private family graveside service took place Monday, July 6, 2020 at Pleasant Garden Cemetery in Summertown. Adair Funeral and Cremation Services assisted the family with arrangements.
