Lewis County Schools Nondiscrimination Policy

 


It is the policy of the Lewis County School System not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability in its educational programs, activities or employment policies as required by Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the 1972 Educational Amendments and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

It is also the policy of this district that the curriculum materials utilized reflect the cultural and racial diversity present in the United States and the variety of careers, roles and life-styles open to women as well as men in our society. One of the objectives of the total curriculum and teaching strategies is to reduce stereotyping and to eliminate bias on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, religion and disability. The curriculum should foster respect and appreciation for the cultural diversity found in our country and an awareness of the rights, duties, and responsibilities of each individual as a member of the pluralistic society.

Lewis County Schools offers a wide range of Career and Technical Education programs, which may consist of Agricultural Sciences, Business Technology, Family and consumer Sciences, Health Science, Marketing, Technology Engineering, as well as Trade and Industrial. Special populations are also available for disadvantaged and handicapped students. The Lewis County School System and its Career and Technical Education programs do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or marital status in its programs and activities, including employment policies.

Per CFR 26 of the Federal Register, the Lewis County Board of Education hereby notifies students and parents that parts of our facility contain asbestos containing materials. These building materials are maintained in a non-friable and non-hazardous condition. The management plan for these materials is available for inspection at the Lewis County High School office and the Board of Education office, 206 South Court Street, Hohenwald, Tennessee.
