Lewis County School’s Leadership Team finalized plans for individual schools’ reopening last Friday.

Extra precautions have been added to the protocols this year in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

When addressing the Lewis County Commissioners Monday, Director of Schools Benny Pace acknowledged the goal was to “keep school as normal as possible.”

Following, are plans for the re-opening of school for the 2020-21 year.

In-service
• Certified staff are to report for Opening Ceremonies at 8 a.m. LCHS Commons Area, on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Breakfast will be provided.
Support staff are to report for Opening Ceremonies at 8 a.m. LCHS Commons Area, on Thursday, July 30. Breakfast will be provided.

Elementary & Intermedate
• New students in elementary and intermediate began registering July 22. All school offices will be closed for in-service on July 30. More information may be obtained by calling the LCES 796-5621 or LCIS 796-1029.
• Reminder to parents of Kindergarten students: Kindergarten students will not be placed in a classroom until all required documents are on file.
• Students in grades K-5 will be contacted by their teacher on July 24 for registration appointment times to be held on July 27 and 28.

Middle School
• New students in Lewis County Middle School may register beginning Thursday, July 23, 2020. New students are asked to bring immunization records, birth certificate, social security card and proof of residency.
• All school offices will be closed for inservice on July 30th. More information can be obtained by calling the Middle School at 931-796-4586.
• All seventh grade students are required to bring immunization records to the Middle School office by August 7. Students will not be allowed to come to school after August 7 without current immunization record completed.
• Students in grades six through eight will be contacted by their first period teacher on July 24 for both traditional and virtual registration appointment times to be held on July 27 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. and July 28 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

High School
• LCHS pre-registration for ALL (even if you attended LCHS last year) grade levels was held on July 20 and July 21. Enrollment cards were to be filled out these days.
• Virtual student registration and new student registration was also held on July 20 and July 21. If you missed these dates, call 796-4085 to set up an appointment.

Students report for a full day on Tuesday, August 4.
