Drowning at NACO

Local emergency crews were called to the Natchez Trace Wilderness Preserve, aka NACO, Sunday when a man drowned while swimming in the lake at the campground.

Lewis County Medical Examiner Dr. Joey Hensley reported Clarence Spurgeon, 74 of Pulaski, reportedly jumped into the water from a boat to swim to shore. When he failed to resurface, others in the area were alerted and offered aid.

An ambulance arrived in 15 minutes, a Lewis County E911 CAD noted, and took over efforts to revive Mr. Spurgeon without success.

An autopsy was requested by Dr. Hensley.
