Local Golfers compete in BOCO Cup

A team of Lewis County golfers competed in the 2020 BOCO Cup on July 25 and 26 against a team of Perry County golfers at Hohenwald Municipal Golf Course and Buffalo RIver Country Club. The first two rounds of play were at Hohenwald Municipal and the third round was at Buffalo River.

Round one on Saturday morning was a 1-Low format with 9 duos pairing for each team. Lewis County duo Gary Gordon and Wayne Brewer defeated the Perry County duo of Don Moyer and Sammy Ellis, Perry County's Bill Bates and Dennis Lecompte defeated David Barber and Kenny Collier, Larry Gordon and Terry Colley of Lewis County defeated Mark Mathis and Eric Lomax, Garrett Daniel and Peyton Hinson of Perry County defeated Matt Duncan and Bret Hankins, Lewis County's T.J. Hinson and Lance Crowell defeated Jaxx Plunkett and Carter Counterman, Lucas Brewer and Matt Anderson of Lewis County defeated Daniel Richardson and Braden Bates, Lewis County's Clinton Reeves and Scott Mullinicks split with Perry County's Colby Bates and Blake Moore, Kirk Haston and Caleb Dunkle of Perry County defeated E.J. DeNicolais and Ray Brewer, and Blake Warren and Brent Hinson of Perry County defeated Clay Colley and Randy Reeves. After Round 1, the teams were tied at 4 1/2.

Round two on Saturday afternoon was an Alternate Shot format, again with 9 duos pairing for each team. Larry Gordon and Gary Gordon of Lewis County defeated Bill Bates and Eric Lomax, Lewis County's Terry Colley and Wayne Brewer defeated Sammy Ellis and Mark Mathis, David Barber and Kenny Collier of Lewis County defeated Don Moyer and Dennis Lecompte, Scott Mullinicks and Clay Colley split with Jaxx Plunkett and Carter Counterman, Brent and Peyton Hinson of Perry County defeated Ray Brewer and Lucas Brewer, Perry County's Daniel Richardson and Colby Bates defeated Matt Duncan and E.J. DeNicolais, T.J. Hinson and Lance Crowell split with Blake Warren and Garrett Daniel, Kirk Haston and Blake Moore of Perry County defeated Matt Anderson and Randy Reeves, and Bret Hankins and Clinton Reeves defeated Caleb Dunkle and Braden Bates. Lewis County took round two 5-4 and led after the first day, 9 1/2 to 8 1/2.

Round three on Sunday was 18 singles matches featuring one golfer from each team and played at Buffalo River. Perry County's Bill Bates split with Kenny Collier, Terry Colley of Lewis County defeated Eric Lomax, Larry Gordon of Lewis County defeated Mark Mathis, David Barber of Lewis County defeated Sammy Ellis, Gary Gordon of Lewis County defeated Dennis Lecompte, Wayne Brewer of Lewis County defeated Don Moyer, T.J. Hinson of Lewis County defeated Garrett Daniel, Blake Warren of Perry County defeated Lucas Brewer, Daniel Richardson of Perry County defeated Matt Duncan, Caleb Dunkle of Perry County defeated Scott Mullinicks, Randy Reeves of Lewis County defeated Peyton Hinson, Blake Moore of Perry County defeated Bret Hankins, Matt Anderson of Lewis County defeated Brent Hinson, Lance Crowell of Lewis County defeated Kirk Haston, Braden Bates of Perry County defeated Ray Brewer, Clay Colley of Lewis County defeated Colby Bates, Clinton Reeves of Lewis County defeated Jaxx Plunkett, and Carter Counterman of Perry County defeated E.J. DeNicolais. Lewis County took the third round 11 1/2-6 1/2 and secured the BOCO Cup 21-15.
