Transfer Station Crew reduces waste, saves $

A cardboard recycling bin has been placed at the Lewis County Courthouse for public use. Solid Waste Director Bradley Loveless and his landfill attendants continue to make huge strides in reducing, reusing and recycling at our Transfer Station.

In July of 2019, the Transfer Station sent out 29 trailers of garbage to the Decatur County Landfill. In July of 2020, the Transfer Station only sent out 21 trailers of garbage to the Marshall County Landfill.

That's a reduction of two trailers per week from this time last year. And in July of 2019, the average trailer weighed just over 22 tons...so that's nearly $10,000 in savings in just one month comp...
