Newbold announces a return to the classroom

August 27, 2020

Managing Editor Becky Jane Newbold has accepted a position with the Lewis County School system as a full time substitute teacher and will be leaving her post at her family's newspaper beginning next week.

In the local school system, it is anticipated Mrs. Newbold will fill in for teachers who may need an extended leave due to COVID quarantine requirements.

"While this has been a difficult decision to make because I will no longer be working alongside the exceptional staff at the Herald, I look forward to the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of young people," Newbold commented.

"Helping to keep people informed of the facts of local news has been an incredible task I have enjoyed. We have a strong team of highly qualified employees on staff here at the newspaper, and business is growing. I am proud of the progress we have made in recent years and am grateful to our customers who continue to stand by our work."

Newbold most recently was honored with the TN Press Association's Public Notice Journalism Contest award which is to be presented in September, postponed from July, due to COVID.

She has served on the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Community Advisory Board since 2006 and has been active in many civic organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Hohenwald Arts Council and a Davis House Child Advocacy Center Advisory Committee.

Prior to returning home in 2003, Mrs. Newbold was employed at Alamo City Schools, as a mathematics teacher. She also previously taught with the Humboldt City School system.

Newbold will continue to serve as President of the corporation for the immediate time.

"Family priorities were a huge part of the decision to make a career change. The opportunity to return to the classroom in my hometown is one I am honored and excited to accept," she concluded.
