Scale Fees determined for Transfer Station
October 1, 2020
In last week’s County Commission meeting, the scale fees were set at three cents per pound, or $60 per ton.
“This decision had to be made to offset the ever-rising cost to run and maintain our Class 3 Landfill such as the salary of the dozer operator, maintenance of equipment and the eventual needed expansion once the Pit is full,” Mayor Jonah Keltner stated.
The fees and policies will be effective starting October 1, 2020. The policy is as follows:
Any resident or business bringing items to the Transfer Station that must be placed in the Pit, must have a sticker/receipt showing that they must be weighed by the scales.
The rate for disposing of Pit material (such as construction debris, furniture, yard waste, etc.) shall be three cents per pound or $60 per ton.
As part of their regular Solid Waste Fee, residents and businesses shall also be allowed to dispose up to 250 pounds of pit material per week (per dwelling/per business) at no additional cost. For this purpose, a week shall begin on Monday and end on Saturday. This cannot be accrued.
Items that the County can recycle or sell at no cost, such as metal, appliances, aluminum, etc. that does not go into the pit, will not be charged.
At this time, there will be no fees for trees, limbs, etc. that go to the brush or log pile. Fees for this type of material will be studied and addressed in the future.
The new scales will be installed on Friday, October 2nd.
The Commission passed the Resolution with 13 “ayes” and two “no” votes from Commissioners Aren Ragsdale and Larry Hensley.
