November 11, 2020
Ramona Dale Defoe Nicholson was born September 18, 1928 in Hohenwald, the daughter of Herbie and Clarice Defoe. She passed away on November 5, 2020.
Ramona had one brother, Jones Craig Defoe, who preceded her in death.
She married Guy J. Nicholson in 1946. They were married 71 years and had two children, Don and Amy.
Ramona and Guy moved to Sparta, Cookeville, and Kingsport, as Guy's career progressed. It was in Sparta that Ramona owned and operated a beauty school and where they met their lifelong friends, Drake (deceased) and Margaret Anderton.
At the end of Guy's career, he was transferred back to their home area of Tennessee where Ramona was so happy to spend the last 40 years of her life surrounded by family and friends.
Ramona worked in the Lewis County School System as a teacher's aide. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed crocheting, painting, and antiques. She loved spending time with family and friends, and she never met a stranger with whom she didn't strike up a conversation.
Survivors include a son, Don (Patricia) Nicholson; daughter, Amy Nicholson; grandchildren, Kyle (Leah) Runions, Matthew (Flannery) Nicholson, and Emily Nicholson; four great-grandchildren; friend, Margaret Anderton; and friend and care provider, Lisa Lemons.
A private family service is scheduled for November 15. McDonald Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Food for Friends Ministry at Lomax Church of Christ, 320 Darbytown Road, Hohenwald, TN 38462.
