Dear Editor,

Donald Duncan and I (Jack Cothran) were reminiscing about high school, our time in service and others who have proudly served in the military.

Reflecting back we had stressful and somewhat divided stands on political issues, especially those issues related to our participation in the Vietnam conflict.

Today our involvement in foreign wars seems commonplace. Fifty-five years later similar issues for senior citizens continue to be the same. Wars, racial issues, economy and a pandemic for good measure are the highlights of 2020.

As Boomers, a product of the greatest generation, have we done our part to keep our country safe, free and the envy of the world? We had a chance to express our patriotic choice in the 2020 presidential election.

Not all veterans were pro either candidate. However, a large number of retired senior military expressed their preference. Maybe they remember when professionalism and character were important traits of leadership. Those two traits summed up essential characteristics of who Donald Duncan and I supported for president.

The following is a list of the veterans we could remember who served in the military from the class of 65. This is just one class of the many from Lewis County High School who fought and served for your freedom and right to vote. I am sure their preferences were as divided as the country. Whoever your chosen candidate was, I hope you did your civic duty and voted. Thank you fellow veterans of the class of 65.
