LCES/LCIS Virtual Literacy Activities

November 25, 2020

Lewis County Elementary and Lewis County Intermediate Schools, in conjunction with the City of Hohenwald, are excited to announce the first ever virtual literacy community event.

To kick off the events, parents and students will pick up literacy information on Thursday, December 3 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wilhelm Tell Platz Park Gazebo. Literacy goody bags will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students will then complete a letter to Santa Claus and place it in the mailbox inside City Hall (after hours – use the pay slot on the side). All letters must be turned in by Tuesday, December 15. Santa will read the name of every child he receives a letter from via social media platforms on Christmas Eve.

As a part of the literacy activities, everyone is encouraged to watch Facebook (Lewis County Schools, City of Hohenwald, Christmas in Hohenwald), Twitter (@ofhohenwald), and Instagram (city.of.hohenwald) at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4 for a live reading of “Silver Packages: An Appalachian Christmas” by Joyce Page. You will then be able to search the town for silver packages.

The following week everyone is invited to watch Kara Farr reading “Snowmen at Christmas” at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11 via the social media platforms. You will then be able to search the town for snowmen.
