The Lewis County High School Panthers matched up with the Perry County Vikings on Tuesday, December 1 at the local gymnasium. It was an island game for the boys as there was no girls game due to COVID-related quarantines.

The Panthers, coming off a tough loss at Perry County the previous outing, looked to avenge the 2-point loss at home. In a fast-paced first quarter, it was the Panthers that pulled away early, knocking down 4 3's in the period as Rett Middleton paced the home team with 7 and Lewis County held a 23-18 lead at the end of the first. The Vikings countered in the second quarter with 23 points of their own in taking a 41-39 lead before the half.

The pace slowed somewhat after the break, but the teams continued to counter each offensive possession and the Vikings held on to a 4-point lead at 55-51 moving on to the final 8 minutes of regulation. In a high scoring fourth quarter, the Panthers fought back even late in the game and the teams exchanged baskets down the stretch. In the waning minutes of regulation, with the Panthers trailing by one, the Vikings extended their lead to three at the free-throw line with under 30 seconds to play. On the ensuing possession, the Panther offense moved the ball around the perimeter to get the ball in the hands of senior guard Slade Moseley, who pulled up with just under 10 seconds remaining and drained a three to tie the game at 71.

Following a timeout, with only eight seconds remaining, the Vikings moved the ball the length of the court and found Cody Burney near the block for a shot off the glass that beat the buzzer, allowing the Vikings to escape with a 73-71 win, the second 2-point loss the Panthers suffered to the Vikings in a week.

Slade Moseley and Bryson Clayburn each had 18 in the loss, Dyer Barnes 12, Rett Middleton 10, Levi Thompson and Braden Powers 6 each, and Kyle Holcomb 1.

Perry County's Jackson Tatum had 35.

The loss dropped the Panthers to 1-2 on the young season.

The Lewis County High School Panthers matched up with the Collinwood Trojans on Friday, December 4 at Lewis County High School gymnasium. It was also an island game for the boys as there was no girls game due to COVID-related quarantines.

The Panthers, reeling from back-to-back 2-point losses to rival Perry County, hoped to rebound against the visiting Trojans. The first quarter of the game was a methodical chess match as each team worked to execute in the half court and Lewis County took an 11-7 lead behind 5 points from Braden Powers.

The Panthers did not let up in the third as they extended their lead to 53-26 moving on to the final quarter of regulation. The Trojans could not mount any type of comeback, as the Panthers pulled away to a convincing 74-49 victory.

Bryson Clayburn was the high point man on the night with 20, including 4 three's, Levi Thompson added 16, Slade Moseley 14, Dyer Barnes 12, Rett Middleton 6, Braden Powers 5, and Kyle Holcomb 1.
