Lady Rockets take down Lady Panthers

March 17, 2021

The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers took on the Forrest Lady Rockets in their second game of the Summertown tournament on Friday, March 12th in Summertown.

Kinlee Keltner was again on the mound for the Lady Panthers and found trouble early in the first. After hitting the leadoff batter and the runner moving into scoring position on a passed ball, the Rockets scored first with a run-scoring single to left. Keltner would retire the next two batters but a double to left would plate another run and the Lady Rockets would take an early 2-0 lead.

In the home-half of the first, the Lady Panthers would get a leadoff single from Makaela Dodson and Kabry Adkins would be hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs, but three consecutive strikeouts would end the Lady Panther threat and Forrest would lead 2-0 after one complete. Keltener would again start the inning with trouble by hitting the leadoff in the second and surrender a 1-out double followed by consecutive singles and a run scoring groundout to extend the Lady Rocket lead to 5-0.

The Lady Panthers would get the leadoff on again in the second as Brailey Carroll reached on an error, but the Lady Rockets would again escape by recording an out on a sacrifice bunt between two strikeouts and the score remained Forrest 5 Lewis County 0. In the third, the Rockets would again pressure Keltner with the Lady Panthers committing back-to-back errors before a walk. Addison Morgan would come in relief for Keltner and strike out the first batter she faced, but give up a 2-run single before retiring the final two outs and Forrest would take a 8-0 lead into the Lady Panther’s final at-bat. The lone Lady Panther would come when the leadoff for Lewis County, Makaela Dotdon, would send a ball deep over the left field fence for a homerun, but the Lady Panthers could not push any more runs across, dropping the game 8-1.

Makaela Dodson had 2 hits, including a solo homerun, 1 run and 1 RBI, and Kabry Adkins 1 hit, Kinlee Keltner went 2 innings in the loss, giving up 8 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1. Addison Morgan went 1 inning in relief, gave up a hit and struck out 1.
