Lady Panthers Fall To Lady Vikings In Opener

The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers softball team opened up their 2021 season travelling to Perry County to take on the Lady Vikings on Monday, March 15, 2021.
In the top half of the first the Lady Panthers would be retired in order. Emily Graves took the mound to start for the Lady Panthers and the Lady Vikings struck first. With one out in the bottom of the first, the Lady Vikings got on the board with a solo homerun and would add 4 more runs on 3 hits and 2 walks to take a 5-0 lead after one inning of play.
The Lady Panthers would again go down in order in the second. Lady Vikings would get a 2-out hit but leave the runner stranded at third, and the score after 2 complete would remain 5-0.
The Lady Panthers would finally find the base-paths in the third, getting three hits in the inning from Anna Kate Duncan, Kennedi Potts, and Emma Tinnon, but again failed to push any runs across and trailed by 5 moving into the bottom of the third. A leadoff walk and hit, followed by a one-out hit for the Lady Vikings would add two more to their total, and extend the Perry County lead to 7-0 after three innings. Lewis County would finally crack the scoring column in the bottom half of the fourth when, with one out in the inning, Kenzie James would drive a solo homerun to make it a 7-1 game.
Piper Blevin and Emily Graves would draw a walk and single respectively, but the Lady Panther inning ended with a 7-1 score. Lady Vikings would draw a one-out walk in the bottom of fourth, but be held scoreless.
The Lady Panthers would battle back in the visitor half of the fifth inning when, with one out, Emma Tinnon, Allie Wilcutt, and Nylah Halbrooks would each provide hits and Kenzie James would connect for her second homerun of the game, cutting into the Lady Viking lead to make the score 7-5. The Lady Vikings would put the leadoff aboard on a Lady Panther fielding error and push the run across on two hits in the inning and take an 8-5 lead in the fifth.
Anna Kate Duncan would single with 1 out in the sixth, followed by a hit from Kennedi Potts, and Duncan would score on a single from Tinnon making the score 8-6. Back-to-back one-out hits by the Lady Vikings put runners in scoring position in the sixth, but the Lady Panthers escaped without giving up a run.
In the top of the seventh, both James and Keira Halbrooks singled with one out, but the Lady Panthers failed to find the equalizer and dropped the game to Perry County 8-6.
Emma Tinnon had 3 hits and scored a run on the day, Kenzie James had 3 hits, including 2 homeruns, and scored twice, Anna Kate Duncan and Kennedi Potts each had 2 hits and Duncan a run scored, Alie Wilcutt a hit and a run, Nylah Halbrooks a hit and a run, Keira Halbrooks a hit, and Emily Graves a hit.
Lady Panthers Fall
To Lady Eagles
The LCHS Lady Panthers softball team travelled to Columbia to take on the Zion Christian Academy Lady Eagles on Tuesday, March 16.
The Lady Panthers went down in order in the top half of the first inning, and Emily Graves took the rubber to start in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back hits to start the game got things rolling for the Lady Eagles, as they would go on to score 4 runs in the inning on 5 hits and a walk to take a 4-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
Lewis County would again go down in order in the second inning. In the bottom of the second the Lady Eagles again started the inning off with consecutive hits and both would come around to score in the inning, making the Zion lead 6-0.
Kennedi Potts would pick up the first Lady Panther hit of the game with two out in the third inning, but would get no further than first base when the inning ended. The Lady Eagles would bring 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third inning starting with a leadoff error and consecutive hits before the Lady Panthers recorded an out. Four more hits and two walks brought in a total of 7 runs for the home team in a long third inning, and the Lady Eagles took a 13-0 lead after three complete.
A leadoff hit from Alie Wilcutt followed by a hit from Nylah Halbrooks allowed the Lady Panthers to finally get on the board, and a two-out hit from Piper Belvin put two on with two out but the Lady Panthers failed to add to their total.
A one-out walk and a single to start the home fourth brought another run in for Zion to make the score 14-1. Lewis County went down in order in their final at-bat, dropping the 14-1 matchup.
Allie Wilcutt had a hit and a run scored, Nylah Halbrooks added a hit, Piper Belvin a hit, and Kennedi Potts a hit.
Ladies drop to Summertown
The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers softball team travelled to Summertown to take on the Summertown Lady Eagles on Friday, March 19th.
In the top of the first, Allie Wilcutt reached on a one-out walk, but was left stranded. Emily Graves took the bump for the Lady Panthers and worked around a two-out walk to keep the Lady Eagles scoreless.
The Lady Panthers went down in order in the second inning, and the Lady Eagles came up in the bottom half with the score tied at 0.
A leadoff double and an error on a throw would score the run, and the Lady Eagles would add another run after a walk and take a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Zoie Clark would draw a one-out walk and move to second on a sacrifice bunt by Emma Tinnon but would be left stranded. A leadoff walk would start a big inning for the Lady Eagles in the bottom of the third, as an error and a double would plate two, and a two-out double followed by a single would bring in two more, and the Lady Eagles would open up a 6-0 lead heading into the final inning of play.
A one-out walk to Nylah Halbrooks would be the only damage the Lady Panthers could do in their final at-bat as they dropped a 6-0 final.
The Lady Panthers were held hitless in the game, as Allie Wilcutt, Zoie Clark, and Nylah Halbrooks represented the only baserunners for Lewis County, each drawing walks in the game.
