LCMS ladies fall to Summertown

March 25, 2021

The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers softball team hosted the Summertown Lady Eagles on Tuesday, March 16 at Memorial Park.

Kinlee Keltner took the mound to start for the Lady Panthers and issued a leadoff walk before recording a fly out. With one out, the Lady Eagles had back-to-back singles to bring in the game's first run, and with two outs in the inning the Lady Eagles would plate one on a single and two more on a two-out two-run homerun to take a 5-0 lead at the end of a half inning.

A leadoff walk to Makaela Dodson followed by fielding errors on balls hit by Brailey Carroll and Kinlee Keltner loaded the bases for Clara Tanner to drive in the first Lady Panther run. The Lady Panthers would score a second run on a fielding error on a ball hit by Addie Osborne, and the score would be 5-2 Summertown after one.

Keltner would work a scoreless second, and the Lady Panthers would fail to capitalize on a leadoff walk to Dodson in their half and the score remained 5-2 after 2. Keltner would allow a leadoff single and a one-out single and walk to load the bases in the third, but the Lady Eagles would only be able to score one and the Summertown lead would be 6-2 moving into the home third.

Addison Osborne would draw a two-out walk but be cut down trying to steal to end any threat in the bottom of the third. Addison Morgan would replace Keltner in the fourth after back-to-back singles and would walk in a runner after consecutive free passes. The Lady Eagles would run off 5 more singles and draw another walk on their way to plating 8 in the inning to take a commanding 14-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Panthers would get singles from Morgan and Dodson and a walk from Brailey Carrol before failing to push a run across. Morgan would give up singles to two of the first three batters in the fifth, and a 1-out double would drive in two more runs and the Lady Eagles would take a 16-2 lead into the home fifth. Singles by Keltner and Tanner, and a walk to Kabry Adkins would load the bases with no outs, and a 1-out walk to Gabii Ortiz would plate a run, but the Lady Panthers would fail to push any more across and drop the game 16-3.

C.J. Tanner had 2 hits and an RBI, Makaela Dodson a hit and a run, Kinlee Keltner a hit and a run, Addie Osborne and Gabii Ortiz each had an RBI, Addison Morgan a hit, and Brailey Carrol a run scored. Kinlee Keltner went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits, walking 4 and striking out 1. Addison Morgan went 2 and 1/3 innings, gave up 10 runs on 10 hits, walking 3 and striking out 1.
