LCMS Panthers handle Vikings

March 25, 2021

The Lewis County Middle School Panthers baseball team hosted the Perry County Vikings on Monday, March 15th at LCHS.

Steele Moseley took the mound for the Panthers to begin the game and gave up a leadoff single before striking out the second batter of the game. Perry County would take an early lead when a runner crossed the plate on a dropped third strike before Moseley helped himself with a pickoff for the final out.

Jalen Smith led off the home first with a walk and promptly stole second before Moseley laced a single to center to score the run. A walk to Brayden Whitlow and double stolen bases put runners at second and third with no outs when Sam Moore hit a hard ground ball that the second baseman couldn't come up with and scored 2 runs. Nate James hit a one-out fly that was dropped and allowed Moore to score, putting Lewis County up 4-1 with only one out in the first. A single and a steal by Dakota Hull put two in scoring position for Maddox Tanner who delivered a 2-run single. Braylon Bean drew a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Cayleb Moore. Smith batted for the second time in the inning and singled to score Tanner, and Moseley reached on an error to load the bases for Whitlow with only one out. Whitlow delivered a two-run single to make the score 9-1, followed by a 2-run single by Sam Moore. Kolt Skelton followed Moore with a single, and James would drive in Moore with a single. By the end of the first inning the Panthers had taken a commanding 12-1 lead.

Moseley worked around a leadoff walk to pitch a scoreless second. 3-straight one-out walks gave the Panthers bases loaded with one out when Whitlow delivered again, driving in a run, and a two-out bases-loaded walk by Kamdyn Anthony brought another run in, and Moseley would cross on a wild pitch before the inning ended with the Panthers up 15-2.

Moseley would take the hill in the final inning and worked around a single and an error to pitch a scoreless third and take the win.

Brayden Whitlow had 2 hits, 2 runs, and 3 RBI, Sam Moore 1 hit, 2 runs, and 3 RBI, Jalen Smith 1 hit, 2 runs, and an RBI, Steele Moseley 1 hit, 3 runs, and 1 RBI, Kolt Skelton 1 hit and 1 RBI, Nate James a hit, a run, and an RBI, Dakota Hull a hit and a run, Maddox Tanner a hit, a run, and 2 RBI, Braylon Bean a run scored, Cayleb Moore a run, Kamdyn Anthony an RBI, and Corbyn Harris a run. Steele Moseley went 3 innings for the win, allowing 2 unearned runs on 2 hits, walking 1 and striking out 6.
