PANTHERS TAME LIONS

The Lewis County High School Panthers baseball team traveled to Camden on Monday, March 22nd to take on the Camden Lions in District 11AA play.

The Panthers went down in order in the top of the first and Slade Moseley took the mound and made quick work of the Lions, pitching around a two-out single to keep the score tied at zero after one. One-out singles from Kael Feichtinger and Lincoln Brewer put runners in scoring position in the visitor second, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat. Moseley worked around a pair of singles in the home half of the third, striking out two in the inning, to keep the score tied at 0. The Panthers were retired in order again in the top of the third, and the Lions were limited to a one-out single in their half inning and the score remained 0-0 after three complete innings. Slade Moseley would lead off the Panther fourth with a single, followed by singles to Maddox Cagle, Feichtinger, Lincoln Brewer, Dyer Barnes, and Levi Thompson that would plate 3 in the inning and the Panthers would take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. Moseley would take the mound for his fourth inning of work and again work around a one-out single to keep the Lions off the board and the Panthers kept control of a 3-0 lead. Sloan Moseley led off the top of the fifth with a single, and a one-out single by Slade Moseley would plate a run, followed by a two-out single from Feichtinger that would plate another to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead. Moseley would run into trouble in his fifth inning on the hill, giving up a leadoff single and back-to-back doubles before Hayden Jackson came in in relief. Jackson would give up a one-out single and 2 two-out hits that would plate runs and the Panthers lead was cut to 5-3 when the dust settled in the fifth. A leadoff single by Barnes started the sixth for Lewis County, and he would move all the way to third but was left stranded in a scoreless half inning for the Panthers. Jackson would retire the Lions in order in the sixth and the Panthers clung to a 5-3 lead moving into the seventh. Brody Whitlow led off the seventh with a single was followed by hits from Slade Moseley, Cagle, Feichtinger, Brewer, Barnes, and Thompson that would push four more runs across and stretch the Panther lead to 9-3 as play moved to the bottom of the seventh. Jackson would work around a one-out hit to finish off a scoreless seventh and seal the District 11AA win for the Panthers 9-3.

Kael Feichtinger had 4 hits and scored a run, Slade Moseley had 3 hits and scored 3 runs, Dyer Barnes had 3 hits, Lincoln Brewer 3 hits and a run, Maddox Cagle 2 hits and 2 runs, Levi Thompson 2 hits, Sloan Moseley a hit and a run, and Brody Whitlow a hit and a run.
