Panther host YellowJackets

April 29, 2021

The Lewis County High School Panthers baseball team hosted the Fairview YellowJackets on Monday, April 19, 2021 for a District 11AA matchup at LCHS featuring the top 2 teams in 11AA.

Slade Moseley took the mound for Lewis County to start the big district matchup and surrendered a leadoff walk that ultimately accounted for the first run of the game after a stolen base and a two-out single gave the visitors a 1-0 lead. Sloan Moseley was hit by a pitch with one out in the home-half and came around to score to tie the game. Maddox Cagle stroked a two-out double but was cut down at the plate attempting to score on a Brody Whitlow single to left and the game was 1-1 after one.

Moseley again put the leadoff man aboard in the second but sat down the next three Fairview hitters to get out of the inning. Lincoln Brewer led off with a single and worked his way around to score and give the Panthers a one-tun advantage after two complete.

Fairview would get the leadoff man aboard for the third straight inning, this time by error, and string together 2 singles, a walk, and a double to bring home 3 to take a 4-2 lead and the Panthers would be held scoreless in their half of the third.

In his fourth inning of work Slade Moseley worked around a two-out single to keep the score 4-2 after 3 1/2 innings of play, but the Panthers again went down in order to end the fourth.

The YellowJackets would get a two-out baserunner on a single to left but Moseley induced a ground ball back to the mound to end the fifth, and the Panthers would be set down in order in the bottom half.

Moseley struck out two of three in a perfect sixth, what would be his last inning of work, and the Panthers would see the side go down in order on strikes in the home sixth.

Lincoln Brewer came in to pitch in the seventh and give up a leadoff single and a walk, and the YellowJackets would add an insurance run to make it a 5-2 game. The Panthers would see the game come to an end as they went down in order for the fourth straight inning and drop the District 11AA matchup 5-2.

Maddox Cagle had a double for the Panthers, Brody Whitlow a single, Lincoln Brewer a single and a run scored, and Sloan Moseley a run scored.

Panthers travel to Fairview for second game

The Lewis County High School Panthers baseball team travelled to Fairview for their second matchup with District foe the Fairview YellowJackets on Tuesday, April 20 after a tough loss at home the day before.

Blake Carroll led the game off with a solo homerun on the third pitch of the game and the Panthers had a 1-0 lead early. Brody Whitlow took the mound for the Panthers to start and worked around a two-out single to keep the YellowJackets scoreless.

Lincoln Brewer reached on a two-out single but was left stranded in the visitor second, and Fairview would tie the game in the bottom half with two one-out singles and a two-out single to make the score 1-1 after two.

Sloan Moseley would hit a shot to the left-centerfield gap for a triple with two down, but the Panthers wouldn’t push him across in the third. Hayden Jackson would relieve Whitlow in the bottom of the third and retire Fairview in order.

Whitlow and Brewer would hit back-to-back two-out singles in the fourth, but the Panthers would come up empty in the inning. Likewise, the YellowJackets would get two aboard by singles with one out in the bottom half and Jackson would pitch out of the jam.

Sloan Moseley would reach with a two-out single in the fifth, his second hit of the game, but the YellowJackets would get out of the inning. Back to back singles with one out in the fifth, combined with defensive miscues, would plate a run for Fairview in the fifth to give the YellowJackets a 2-1 lead.

Kael Feichtinger would double to left-center with one down in the sixth, but back-to-back strikeouts would end the Panther threat in the inning. Two Fairview doubles to start the inning, a one-out single, and a two-out homerun to left would increase the lead to 6-1 moving into the final inning. Fairview would strike out the side in order to end the game as the Panthers dropped the District 11AA matchup 6-1.

Sloan Moseley had a triple and a single for the Panthers, Lincoln Brewer 2 singles, Blake Carroll had a solo homerun, Kael Feichtinger a double, and Brody Whitlow a single.
