Two days of District 11AA games between rivals, Panthers and Bulldogs

April 29, 2021

The Lewis County High School Panthers baseball team hosted the Hickman County Bulldogs on Monday, April 12th at LCHS in a District 11AA tilt.

Slade Moseley started the game on the mound for the Panthers and worked around a one-out error to pitch a scoreless first. Blake Carroll led of the home first with a hard single to center and stole two bases, but the Panthers went down in order after and failed to push a run across.

Moseley ran into trouble in the top of the second with a one-out walk and a single followed by two-out walk to load the bases but managed to escape with no runs crossing the plate. Kael Feichtinger led off the second with a triple to right and Whitlow would plate a run reaching on an error. With one out in the bottom of the second Dyer Barnes drew a walk and Levi Thompson delivered a single to left, and two two-out errors would push more runs across and the Panthers took 5-0 lead after two.

The Bulldogs would get one back in the third with 2 one-out singles and an error in the inning and make the score 5-1 Lewis County, and the Panthers went down in order in the bottom half of the inning.

Moseley worked around a two-out double to keep the Bulldogs off the board in the fourth, and the Panthers couldn’t bring home Blake Carroll after he reached on a two-out error and the score remained 5-1.

A leadoff single followed by an error for Hickman County was negated by a big double play and the Bulldogs were kept scoreless in the fifth. Slade Moseley led off the home fifth with a single but couldn’t find his way to score and the score was still 5-1 after five complete.

After getting two quick outs in the top of the sixth the Panthers saw the Bulldogs load the bases with a single and two walks but, once again, the Panther defense held and the Bulldogs failed to bring a run across. Lincoln Brewer led off the home sixth with a single and Barnes and Thompson followed with walks and Slade Moseley came up later, with two outs, to deliver a base-clearing triple.

The Panthers would take a 9-1 lead into the seventh. The Bulldogs would put their first six batters of the seventh aboard with three singles, two walks, and an error and plate 5, but the Panthers would find the final out and take a 9-6 District win.

Slade Moseley had 2 hits, a triple, and 2 runs, Kael Feichtinger a triple and a run, Blake Carroll a single, Sloan Moseley a run scored, Brody Whitlow a run, Lincoln Brewer a hit and a run, Dyer Barnes a run scored, and Levi Thompson a hit and two runs.

Panthers travel to Centerville for second game

The Lewis County High School Panthers travelled to Centerville to take on the Hickman County Bulldogs in the second District 11AA matchup between the rivals on Tuesday, April 13, one day after the Panthers defeated the Bulldogs 9-6 in Hohenwald.

With one out in the top of the first Sloan Moseley delivered a single to left and moved to second, but the Panthers left him in scoring position as the half-inning ended. Brody Whitlow drew the start in Centerville and after giving up a single to the first Bulldog batter retired three in a row to get out of the inning scoreless.

Kael Feichtinger led off the second with a single and Lincoln Brewer came later with a one-out single ahead of a run-scoring two-out single by Levi Thompson that gave Lewis County a 2-0 lead. Whitlow would sit down the first two batters of the inning before four-straight singles plated a run and the Panthers lead was cut to 2-1.

The Panthers went down in order in the third and Hayden Jackson came on in relief of Whitlow in the bottom of the third. Hickman County would take the lead in the home-half with a pair of singles around a one out double to make the score 3-2 Bulldogs.

The Panthers would bring home the equalizer in the top of the fourth as Whitlow, Brewer, Dyer Barnes, and Thompson would each single consecutively and tie the game at 3 and the Bulldogs were retired in order by Jackson to end the fourth.

A leadoff single by Sloan Moseley and two-out hits by Maddox Cagle and Kael Feichtinger would give the Panthers a 4-3 lead after 4 and a half. The Bulldogs would again tie the game in the home fifth with three-straight two-out singles to make it a 4-4 game after five complete.

Three straight Panthers struck out in a quick sixth, and Jackson was nearly as perfect in the bottom as he sat down the home team in order.

A leadoff single by Blake Carroll and a single by Slan Moseley would give Lewis County the lead 5-4 going into the Bulldogs final at-bat, and Jackson would work around a leadoff single to preserve the win, another big District 11AA win and a season-sweep of the Bulldogs.

Sloan Moseley 3 hits and a run for the Panthers, Kael Feichtinger 2 hits and a run, Lincoln Brewer 2 hits and a run, Levi Thompson 2 hits, Blake Carroll a hit and a run, Maddox Cagle a hit, Brody Whitlow a hit and a run, and Dyer Barnes a hit.
