Lewis County Middle School Panthers host Frank Hughes Middle School Lions for double header

The Lewis County Middle School Panthers baseball team hosted the Frank Hughes Middle School Lions from Clifton at LCHS on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.

Kolt Skelton drew the start for the Panthers and worked quickly through the first, retiring the side in order with two strikeouts. Jalen Smith led off the home first reaching on an error by the third baseman and moved to second on a single to left by Steele Moseley. Brayden Whitlow drew a walk to load the bases, and Smith would score on an error on an attempted pickoff at third. Moseley and Whitlow would each cross the plate two batters later on a second errant throw on a pickoff attempt prior to a Kolt Skelton single and the Panthers were staked to an early 3-0 lead.

The Lions would get the leadoff aboard with a single and would score their first run of the game when a two-out single plated a run to make the score 3-1. Maddox Tanner led off the second for the Panthers with a single and scored on a single to center by Kegan Carroll-Clayton. Clayton would move around and eventually score on a two-out groundout by Moseley. With two outs, Whitlow doubled to left and Sam Moore doubled to score Whitlow, and Dakota Hull followed with an RBI single to left to give the Panthers a 7-1 lead.

The Lions would pick up two in the third when a leadoff error and two singles loaded the bases and a two-out single brought in two runs and play moved to the bottom of the third with Lewis County on top 7-3. Tanner would reach on an error by the center fielder and would cross the plate ahead of a fielder’s choice to make the score 8-3.

Skelton worked a perfect fourth, striking out two. Moseley, Whitlow, and Sam Moore would single consecutively to score one, and a two-out walk to Skelton who was replaced by courtesy runner Phenix McDonald, extended the inning. McDonald would make his way around the bases and score on an infield hit by Corbyn Harris. Tanner would then hit a ball to center that was misplayed, allowing Harris to score, and Carroll-Clayton would single to right to plate Tanner. After a two-out walk to Smith Moseley drove home Carroll-Clayton to make it a 14-3 game.

Kolt Skelton would take down the Lions in order in the fourth to end the game as the Panthers run-ruled the Lions 14-3.
