One Day At A Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 3

Well it is a beautiful morning here in our little valley. The cats have eaten, I’ve finished my coffee and I went for a little walk. As I looked around at the trees and all of the beauty, I thanked God for it all. We are blessed.

There are storms coming in later today. I’m praying for safety. A few days ago we had a lot of wind and hard rain and our power went out around five o’clock. The sun came out after the storm and the evening was beautiful, but as it begin to get later we still didn’t have any power and the sun was going down. It was beginning to get dark and still no power but we had called and reported it and we found out that the power was out all around us but they were working on it. Later we saw a MLEC work truck go down our road and then another one, so we knew our electric company was working for us and I felt better. So I went and got out my oil lamps, they were full of oil and my matches were right next to them, I was ready. The last time I used them I cleaned them and filled them with oil and made sure the matches were beside them. Then we settled in for a quiet evening without power.

I sat one oil lamp by my chair and got my crochet and went to work on my afghan. I had also set an oil lamp by Bob’s chair. The oil lamps are not real bright like the LED bulbs but we made it just fine. We were prepared. It was quiet and peaceful.

My thoughts went back to when we were young, that is the way we lived. We did our school work with only the light of an oil lamp. We went to bed early and got up early, we were happy. But these days that we are living in now, so blessed, but are we as happy as we were back then?

The power came back on around midnight, it was out for about seven hours.

Well I heard the old John Deere tractor, I’m sure the neighbor is out checking his cows and the fences. He’s a busy man and a farmer’s work is never done. I can hear the low rumble of thunder and it is getting cloudy, so I guess the storms are coming in. We’re praying for safety and “In God We Trust” to take care of us.

Well I’m not gonna worry about what storms may come, I’m just going to enjoy one day at a time. God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless.
