Bates awarded Beyond the Call of Duty award

The Beyond the Call of Duty Award was presented to Hannah Bates, center, by Jason Pierce and Rachel Tanner.

Hannah Bates, 22, was presented the 2021 Beyond the Call of Duty award on Thursday, June 17, 2021 during the Hickman County Chamber of Commerce's annual Law and Safety Appreciation Dinner for her "livesaving actions in response to a horrendous traffic accident."

Bates was on her way home when she came upon the motorcycle accident on Highway 48, and quickly sprang into action. She assessed the female victim whose leg was injured and obtained a belt from a nearby homeowner to make a tourniquet in order to stop the bleeding while waiting for first responders to arrive.

The Hickman County Chamber of Commerce recognized Bates for her actions with an award and a proclamation that read, "Hannah Bates epitomizes the spirit and commitment that are characteristic of a true Tennessean, and her professionalism and dedication to serving her community are evident to all who know her."

Bates is a 2016 graduate of Lewis County High School. Her parents are Chad and Tabitha Seiber of Hohenwald, and the late Jimmy Bates of Pinewood. Her grandparents are Wayne Bates and Joyce Bates of Pinewood, Billy and Paula Dyer of Hohenwald, and Wade and Cathy Seiber of Hohenwald.
