Staggs, Carroll win third straight bass tournament

Natchez Trace Wilderness Preserve held their third bass tournament of the year at Chief Creek Lake on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Matt Carroll and Miles Staggs of Lewis County won their third straight event.

Anglers in the top 40 from Lewis County were: Carroll and Staggs, first, catching five fish weighing nine pounds; Keith Smith and CJ Pichon, third, catching five fish weighing 5.08 pounds; Earl Hammer Clark, of Bedford, and Mutt Leigh, sixth, catching five fish weighing 4.68 pounds; Ricky Spears and Jeff Brackeen, eighth, catching five fish weighing 4.56 pounds; Steven Lee and Chris Atkins, 23rd, catching three fish weighing 3.02 pounds; and Gerry Bennett and Jerry Ashmore, 34th, catching two fish weighing 1.7 pounds.

The Big Bass of the Day was among the five fish caught by Carroll and Staggs, weighing 5.42 pounds.

There were a total of 50 boats, 92 anglers and 147 fish caught totaling 139.02 pounds.

The next tournament is planned for Saturday, July 10 with gates opening at 4 a.m.
