Lewis County Board of Education met

 


The Lewis County Board of Education met in a regular called session on Tuesday, July, 13, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lewis County Board of Education Board Meeting Room located at 206 South Court Street. All board members were present: Chair Glenda Atkinson, Vice-Chair Johnny Clayton, Derek Cotham, Cassie Couch, Paula Dyer, Blake Farr, Lindsey Himes, Jackie Holt, and Phyllis Townsend.

The invocation was given by Mr. Clayton. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Dyer.

Consent agenda

Upon motion by Mr. Farr and seconded by Mrs. Dyer, the Consent Agenda was approved:

• Approved minutes of the June 24, 2021, special called board meeting.

• Adopted agenda.

• Approved 4th Quarter Warrants

Director’s report

• Accepted the resignation of Carson Tanner, LCES Special Ed Teacher, effective June 18, 2021.

• Accepted the resignation of Elvis Steve Keeton, full-time bus driver, effective June 21, 2021.

• Accepted the resignation of Clint Alley, Alternative School Teacher, effective June 21, 2021.

• Accepted the resignation of Regina Brewer, LCMS Math teacher, effective June 30, 2021.

• Accepted the resignation of Robert Scotty Duncan, LCHS Social Studies teacher/coach, effective June 28, 2021.

• Employed Kassi Holloway, LCES 1st grade teacher, effective August 3, 2021. On July 8, 2021, Ms. Holloway was changed to LCMS ELA position replacing Mrs. Thompson, to be effective August 3, 2021.

• Employed Brande Smith, LCMS Math, effective August 3, 2021.

• Employed Courtney Ankrapp, LCHS Science, effective August 3, 2021.

• Employed Judy Cross, full-time custodian, effective August 3, 2021.

Unfinished Business – There was no unfinished business to discuss.

New Business

Upon motion by Mr. Cotham and seconded by Mrs. Townsend, both items (a) and (b) were approved to be voted under one vote.

Upon motion by Ms. Himes and seconded by Mr. Farr, items were unanimously approved by board members.

a) The director of schools’ participation in the annual CEO Leadership Institute for the 2021-2022 school year.

b) Board Policy 4.301- Interscholastic Athletics –

• Involves practice / games during the school day. Board approves this annually.

Upon motion by Ms. Townsend and seconded by Mr. Farr, the 2021-2022 budget was approved.

At this time, Chair Atkinson asked for a roll-call vote. Roll call vote results were: Cassie Couch- yes; Glenda Atkinson-yes; Lindsey Himes-yes; Phyllis Townsend- yes; Derek Cotham-yes; Jack Holt-yes; Johnny Clayton-yes; Paula Dyer-yes; and Blake Farr-yes.

Announcements

Chair Atkinson announced that the next regular monthly meeting will be August 10, 2021, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Chair Atkinson reminded everyone to keep the family of Jim Webb in their prayers. Mr. Webb’s daughter, Amanda Barnes, is a LCIS teacher.

Adjournment

Upon motion by Mr. Clayton and seconded by Ms. Townsend, the meeting adjourned at 6:07 p.m.
