Lewis County and the city of Hohenwald have attracted many visitors over the years and captured their hearts, even convincing some to stay.

After speaking with some of those visitors who later moved here, a common reason mentioned is the sense of community that is held by many of Hohenwald's residents.

Clubs and social gatherings are frequently held to donate to those in need, and countless volunteers donate their time to make our city and county a great place to live.

One of those volunteers is Kitty Thomas. Thomas has recently donated her time to planting flowers in public places such as the Post Office and in front of the Welcome to Hohenwald sign.

Although the act of planting flowers may seem small, it has grabbed the attention of many people around town and overall made the city of Hohenwald a little bit prettier to walk around, and maybe even stop to smell the flowers.

The flowers you will see around the Welcome sign contain some of Kenneth Kistler's irises that were planted by his mother over 100 years ago, adding a touch of local history. The irises were not planted before getting permission, of course.
