Christy Graves

April 24, 1970 ~ August 17, 2021

Christy Hinson Graves passed from this world to her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the age of 51. Diagnosed with ALS in June, Christy fought hard but knew that her time was short. Like everything in her life, she approached the end with a sense of humor, making jokes and comforting those around her.

Christy was born on April 24, 1970. She grew up and lived most of her life in Hohenwald, attending Lewis County Schools. Christy was a cheerleader and was well known for her gymnastic ability, and everyone was always amazed at her many talents. After high school, she became a nurse and worked as such until a series of back surgeries kept her from the career that she loved. While she achieved her dream of nursing, her most cherished accomplishments came from being a mother to Crews and Jillian and grandmother to Aison.

Christy was beautiful, funny, talented, and smart, but above all, she was loved by her family and loved them in return. She touched many lives in her 51 years and showed her family and friends that even the worst of times can be endured with grace and dignity. Her short battle with ALS illustrated the fragility and brevity of life and the importance of treasuring each day.

Christy is survived by her parents, Judy Bates McClearen (Joe Edward) and Ronald Lee Hinson (Janie); children, Crews Barber and Jillian Graves (fiancé David Garcia); grandson, Aison Barber; brother, Hans Schwendimann (Brittany); sisters, Mandy Hinson Fowler (Steve) and Brittney Hinson; nieces, Carly Palmer, Sydney Fowler, Ava Schwendimann, and Isla Schwendimann; and nephew, Cpl Grant Fowler, USMC.

Christy was welcomed into Heaven by stepfather, Don Schwendimann, and grandparents, Elton and Lula Hinson, Jason and Pauline Bates, and Leo and Juanita Schwendimann.

A Celebration of Life service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, at the Bethel Chapel and Venue at Farmers Exchange, 2989 Cane Creek Road, Hohenwald.

Adair Funeral and Cremation Services assisted the family with arrangements.
