Mable Anne and Ashley Heath with their THCA Award

Ashley and Mable Anne Heath received Tennessee Health Care Association's 2021 Group Volunteer Award in August which "recognizes the group or organization that best exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism in a nursing home setting."

The much deserved award came after officials at AHC Lewis County nominated the mother-daughter duo after they have continued to visit the nursing home for over a year.

"Our Awards of Excellence honor individuals, volunteers and facilities with an amazing commitment to long-term care residents," THCA Executive Director Jesse Samples said in a press release. "It's an honor to recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of all our recipients."

The Heaths, along with Barbara Hinson and Annette Peery, traveled up to Nashville to accept the award. Mable Anne had a lot to say once she got in front of the microphone.

The mother-daughter duo began visiting AHC Lewis County at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and have been waving, high-fiving and dancing with residents nearly every Monday since.

"More windows have been opened. At first there was only a couple [residents we would visit with] but now it seems like they're sitting there waiting on us," said Ashley Heath. "There's definitely been a lot more smiles. There were a few who didn't want a whole lot to do with us at the beginning, but now they're our friends."
