On September 9, 2021, a deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff's Department, working traffic on Highway 412 East, clocked on radar a gray Chevrolet Malibu. Upon making a traffic stop on the vehicle for speeding, the deputy identified the driver as Brandy Nelson of Hohenwald. The deputy obtained consent to search the vehicle which led to the discovery of 1.8 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an open bottle of alcohol. Nelson was charged with violation of open container law, simple possession of schedule VI marijuana and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
