The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers volleyball teams travelled to Summertown for rematches with the Lady Eagles varsity and junior varsity teams on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

In the girls’ varsity match the Lady Eagles put pressure on the Lady Panthers early on in the opening set. The Lady Eagles used point runs to build a lead in the first set and controlled the pace of the set. Summertown took the opening set by a score of 25-12. The second set of varsity play was almost a mirror-image of the first set as the Lady Eagles continued to put together point streaks that allowed them to open up a double-digit point lead en route to s win in the second set by a score of 25-11 and a match victory over Lewis County 2-0.

The Lady Panthers junior varsity team took the floor prior to the start of the varsity match against the Lady Eagles junior varsity team. The Lady Eagles JV took control of the opening set of junior varsity play and rolled to a 25-12 set win. The second set went much like the first as Summertown’s junior varsity again built a lead on their way to a set win 25-11 to win the junior varsity matchup by a score of 2-0.

LC vs. New Prospect

The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers volleyball team hosted the New Prospect Lady Tigers for varsity and junior varsity matches on Thursday, September 23. This was a rematch from an early season match and was the final regular-season match for the LCMS Lady Panthers.

In the varsity match the Lady Panthers came on to their home court with energy and began attacking the Lady Tigers early. Lewis County rode point-runs to build a big lead and to pull away from New Prospect in the opening set and took the first set by a score of 25-6. The Lady Panthers kept the momentum of the first set after the break and again began to pull out in front of the Lady Tigers. The Lady Panthers pulled away to take the second set by a score of 35-9, winning the match 2-0.

The Lady Panther junior varsity team took the floor prior to the varsity match to face the Lady Tiger junior varsity squad. In the opening set of junior varsity play the two teams went back and forth, exchanging the lead, before the lady Panthers were able to secure a lead and pull away for a 25-22 set one win. In the second set the Lady Tigers JV rebounded and began to piece together streaks of points to put distance between them and the Lady Panther JV, securing a second set win 25-9 to tie the match. In the tie-breaking match to 15 points, the Lady Panthers JV took a lead and were able to fend off the Lady Tigers JV to win the third set 15-10 and win the match 2-1.

The Lady Panthers open play in the area tournament on Saturday.

LC Area Tournament

The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers opened play in the 2021 Area Tournament as hosts against the Collinwood Lady Trojans on Saturday, September 25. The tournament was held at 2 sites, the Lewis County Middle School gymnasium and the Lewis County High School gymnasium.

In the first round game the Lady Panthers took the floor against the Collinwood Lady Trojans. In the season the Lady Panthers dropped 2 matches to the Lady Trojans. In the opening set, the Lady Panthers came out strong against Collinwood. In an evenly played set the Lady Panthers were able to secure a lead and hold the slim margin to take a first set win 25-22. After the break, the Lady Trojans rallied to take a lead and extend it to the end of the set, winning 25-16. In a third and tie-breaking final set, Collinwood continued to fend off any rally the Lady Panthers could put together, and the Lady Trojans took the third set 15-12 and won the match 2-1 to advance to the winner’s bracket game. The Lady Panthers dropped to the loser’s bracket to face Ethridge.

The Lewis County Lady Panthers volleyball team continued play in the Area Tournament on Saturday, September 25 in the second-round loser’s bracket as they squared off against the Ethridge Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Panthers and Lady Bulldogs had met twice earlier in the season, with the Lady Panthers taking both matches. The opening set was a competitive set of play as each team battled and it was Lewis County that took advantage of errors to build a slight lead and secure it on their way to a 25-21 win in the first set of play. The second set was another tightly contested set as the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Panthers traded points and each team had short point streaks before the Lady Panthers were able to pull away to a 25-20 set win and a match victory 2-0. The Lady Panthers eliminated the Lady Bulldogs and advance to the third round to face Collinwood again.
