Johnny Dye

Johnny Dewayne Dye, age 69, resident of Summertown, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The family held a wake at their house on Monday, October 4th. Heritage Funeral Home assessed the family with arrangements.

Johnny was born in Lawrence County and was the son of the late James Lelon Dye and the late Nellie Dye. He graduated from Summertown High School and served in the United States Army. He fought in the Vietnam War and was an active member of VFW in Lawrence County.

Johnny enjoyed farming and had chickens and ducks. He was best known for singing and playing piano. Being a very talented musician, he recorded and released an album, "Tennessee Plea."

As an organ and tissue donor, the Dye family would like to acknowledge that he gave the most precious gift anyone could give; the gift to save the lives of his fellow man. He will always be treasured for this loving act.


He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn White Dye; son, Matthew Dye of Lawrenceburg; daughters, Crystal Brewer of Three Way and Jessie (Wes) Aaron of Ethridge; brothers, Bobby Dye and Mac (Linda) Dye, both of Ethridge; sister, Gail (Bill) West of Hurricane Mills; and grandchildren, Zali White, Mason Dye, Ben Chapman, Sky Chapman, Claire Black, Evan Black, Luke Brewer, Levi Brewer, and Jax Brewer.

Pallbearers were Matthew Dye, Mason Dye, Levi Freeman, Ben Chapman, Evan Black, and Jason Dye. Honorary pallbearers were Luke Brewer, Levi Brewer, and Jax Brewer.
