LCMS Panthers finish undefeated

The Lewis County Middle School Panthers football team traveled to Centerville to face the Hickman County Bulldogs on Tuesday, September 28th in their final game of the 2021 season.

After winning the coin toss, the Panther offense took the field and true to form struck quickly. On the first play from scrimmage, Micah Godfrey bounced outside and sprinted to the endzone for a 60-yard touchdown run and Drew Ray’s conversion run failed, but the Panthers took a 6-0lead just :15 seconds into the game. The 60-yard run took Godfrey over 1,000 yards on the season. The Panthers would continue to roll into the second quarter, as Godfrey struck again on a 17-yard touchdown run and Reggie Wade added the conversion run to make the score 14-0. The Panthers would tack on one more score in the first half as Reggie Wade scored in the final seconds of the half on a 7-yard touchdown run and Drew Ray rumbled into the endzone for the two-point conversion giving the Panthers a 22-0 lead at the half. In the third quarter quarterback Kolt Skelton connected on a touchdown pass, finding Kobe Feichtinger on a 12-yard touchdown pass and Godfrey added the two-point run to make the score 30-0. Skelton would strike once more in the third quarter, as he found Shawn Lewis on a 31-yard touchdown pass and Godfrey’s PAT attempt was no good, building a 36-0 lead moving into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs would mount a drive late in the fourth against the Panther reserves, scoring in the final minute on a 36-yard run and two-point conversion. The Panthers would take the win and secure a perfect 8-0 season with a 36-8 final.

Micah Godfrey led the ground attack for Lewis County with 90 yards on only 3 carries with 2 touchdown runs, Reggie Wade had 29 yards on only 2 carries and a touchdown, Kobe Feichtinger 1 carry for 12 yards, Jalen Smith 2 carries for 3 yards, Drew Ray 1 carry for 2 yards, and D.J. Stewart 1 yard on 1 carry. Kolt Skelton completed 3 of 5 passes for 48 yards and 2 touchdowns. Shawn Lewis had 1 reception for 31 yards and a touchdown, Kobe Feichtinger 1 reception for 12 yards and a touchdown, and Micah Godfrey 1 reception for 5 yards.

The Panther defense limited the Bulldogs to only 86 yards and forced two turnovers in the game. D.J. Stewart had 5 tackles, Jalen Smith and Shawn Lewis each had 4 tackles, Reggie Wade, Hunter King, Kaden Pace, Evan Mathis, and Kevin Lopez each had 3 tackles, Malakai Bosque and Drew Ray 2 tackles, Phenix McDonald, Aiden Wise, Micah Godfrey, Caden Miller, Max Churchwell, Kobe Feichtinger, Zeke Weibe, Kade Carroll, Hunter Hicks, and Levi Graham 1 tackle, Kegan Clayton had an interception, and Clay Jackson a fumble recovery.

The Panthers ended the season 8-0.
