One Day At A Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 23

October 14, 2021

Well it is a nice morning here in our little valley, a cool breeze is blowing and the cats are all curled up in the sunshine. The leaves are falling. I just swept the walk and porches yesterday and now they are covered again, and the trees have not even really changed colors yet, but they have started. We walked down by the creek and there are a lot of nuts on the ground, but there is a lot more nuts on the trees. We have been breaking the shells open. There is going to be a lot of food for the animals, they have been storing up for a longer winter. We still have got some outside work that we need to do before that cold winter wind starts blowing. The neighbor boys have gotten us some nice firewood cut and stacked near the creek where they cut down some trees for us. I will have to call them and get them to haul it to the back porch. They put our firewood on our back porch for us every year. We couldn’t make it without good neighbors, they really take care of us older people.

It seems the covid may be slowing down a little more. But there still is a lot of other things going on, seems like the price of everything is going up and some things are getting harder to find. I was in the grocery store a while back and I saw this lady and she had only a few things in her shopping cart and she had her grocery list in her hand. We got to talking and comparing grocery prices and it seems a lot of things have gone up from a week or so ago. Some of the things that haven’t went up have gotten lighter or smaller. She had a bag of apples, and so did I, and she asked me if I have noticed that some bags of apples or oranges will have one or two more in the bag than others. They may be just a little smaller but they are the same price. So guess what, I now count my apples and oranges. And she said she saves money by making a shopping list before going to the store. I now make myself a list before I go to the store. I was surprised how much money that little lady has helped me save. She also helped me save on my electric bill. She said don’t leave lights on that you don’t need. I was going through the house turning lights off and Bob came in and said you know it seems to be getting dark earlier now days, I said yes it is fall and the days are getting shorter. He will be glad when we get the electric bill. Do you think there are angels that look out for us? Who knows?

The days really are getting shorter, with each day there’s not as much daylight, and it does seem that time is flying by. I just can’t seem to get as much done as I want to. Do you think that me being old may have something to do with it?

I am enjoying this beautiful fall day. I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am just going to take one day at a time because God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God Bless.
