Teachers being selected to receive a $1000 Adopt-A-School Grant from Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative have been announced. A total of $10,000 was awarded to schools in the cooperative’s five-county service area with the help of CoBank’s “Sharing Success” matching grant program.

Grant recipients include:

Lewis County: Kara Farr (Lewis County Elementary) for hands-on learning materials and Shelby Tanner (Lewis County Intermediate) for chromebooks; Hickman County: Jamie R. Lawson (Centerville Intermediate) for school garden materials and Dr. Eddie Boone (Hickman County High) for chemistry supplies; Houston County: Nichole McMillan (Erin Elementary) for library materials and Chelsea Clack (Houston County Middle) for reading materials; Humphreys County: Scarlett McClurkan for agriscience materials and Shannon Tolene for English resources (both McEwen High School); Perry County: Ryan Lambright for band uniforms (Linden Middle and Perry County High) and Cindy Rogers (Perry County High) for safety materials.

“By working with CoBank and local schools, MLEC is able to help teachers offer students more classroom resources and opportunities,” said MLEC President and CEO Keith Carnahan. “As a result, they are more engaged in classroom learning and more prepared as they reach higher learning.”
