The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers opened up their 2021/22 basketball campaign during Hall of Champions week, travelling to Parsons to take on the Decatur County-Riverside Lady Panther and Panthers on Thursday night, November 18th.

In the opening game of the evening the Lady Panthers took the floor against the Riverside Lady Panthers. The game started out close as the Lady Panthers fought in the early going, trailing 13-7 after the first eight minutes of action behind 4 points from Desiree Warman. The Riverside Lady Panthers increased the pressure in the second quarter, outscoring Lewis County 19-4 to take a 32-11 lead in at the half. The Riverside attack continued in the third quarter as they again held the Lady Panthers to only 4 points as they opened up a 50-15 lead moving into the final eight minutes of action. Riverside would only score on a free-throw with a running clock in the fourth, ad Lewis County dropped their opener 51-19. Serenity Warman had 5 points for Lewis County in the loss, Kerrigan Reeves and Desiree Warman 4 points each, Mye Siever 3 points, Jayden Moore 2 points, and Emily Bratcher 1 point.


The Panthers took the court in the second game of the evening against the Riverside Panthers. It was Bryson Clayburn knocking down two big three-point baskets in the first quarter where he scored 8 and the Panthers took an early 14-11 lead on the road. The Panthers would extend their lead to 26-20 at the half as Dyer Barnes dropped 7 in the second. The Lewis County defense would stay strong after the break as both teams would score 13 in the third and Lewis County held a 39-33 lead heading into the final eight minutes of regulation. Riverside would mount a comeback in the fourth but fall short as the Panthers held on for a 53-49 win to open the season. Dyer Barnes led the way for Lewis County with 19, Bryson Clayburn added 18, Austin Shepherd 6, Cade Lomax 5, Luke Lawson 3, and Hunter Smith 2.


LCHS vs. Waynesboro

The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers travelled to Waynesboro for basketball matchups with the Wayne County Lady Wildcats and Wildcats on Monday, November 22nd.

The Lady Panthers and Lady Wildcats took the floor for the first action of the night, and the hosts from Wayne County were not very gracious. The home team pulled away early in the opening eight minutes and built a 27-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Wildcats stayed on the throttle in the second quarter, again scoring 27 points and limiting the Lady Panthers to a lone basket from Serenity Warman to take a commanding 54-6 lead in at halftime. The pace slowed after the half, as Wayne County put up 13 in the third to Lewis County's 2 and the score was 67-8 as the game moved into the fourth quarter. With a running clock, the Lady Panthers were able to outscore the Lady Wildcats 11-9 but dropped the matchup by a final of 76-19. Serenity Warman had 9 for Lewis County, Aerial Whitwell 3, Kerrigan Reeves, Jayden Moore, and Jennan Clayton 2 each, and Mya Siever 1 point.


In the matchup between the Panthers and Wildcats it was the Wildcats that jumped out in front early in the opening quarter, taking a 14-9 lead after the first eight minutes of action. The Panthers and Wildcats would play an even second quarter as Dyer Barnes scored 5 of Lewis County's 15 points and Wayne County held on to a 29-24 lead moving on to halftime. After the break it was Lewis County that came out with momentum, outpacing the host Wildcats 20-16 behind 11 points from Bryson Clayburn and the Panthers trailed by 1, 45-44, as the game reached the fourth quarter. Foul trouble spelled the end for the Panthers as the Wildcats took advantage and pulled away for a 62-55 win. Bryson Clayburn led the Panthers with 15 points, Dyer Barnes had 13, Austin Shepherd 10, Hunter Smith 6, Cade Lomax and Kyle Holcomb 4, and Wyatt Bosheers 3.

LCHS vs. Perry County

The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers hosted the Perry County Lady Vikings and Vikings on Tuesday, November 23rd for varsity basketball matchups.

The Lady Panthers and Lady Vikings took the hardwood for the first game of the evening. The Lady Vikings started the game off building a lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Lady Panthers 21-8 in the opening eight minutes of play as Lewis County's Serenity Warman scored 6 in the period. The pace slowed for both teams in the second quarter, but the Lady Vikings were able to extend their lead in the game to 32-14 as the game reached halftime. The third quarter was an evenly played quarter as each team added 13 points to their totals and the game sat at 45-27 Perry County as the game moved into the final quarter of play. The fourth quarter was a high-scoring period for both teams as Perry County put 27 on the board in the quarter and held the Lady Panthers to 14 to pull away to a 72-41 victory. Serenity Warman had 16 points for Lewis County, Mya Siever added 8, Emily Bratcher 6, Kerrigan Reeves 4, Blayr Clayton 3, Jayden Moore 2, and Kailee Thomas and Ruth Jennings each had 1.

The Panthers and Vikings took the floor for the second game of the evening. The Vikings pushed the tempo of the game from the tip as they doubled-up the Panthers in the opening quarter 14-7. Perry County continued to build on the first quarter lead they had opened up by outscoring the home team 19-10 in the second, despite 6 points from Dyer Barnes in the period, and held a 33-17 lead as the teams went to the locker room for the halftime break. After the break both teams fed the fast pace of the game as they played to a 20-20 third quarter with Barnes dropping 11 in the third and Perry County maintained the 16-point lead at 53-37 moving into the fourth quarter. Perry County would seal the win in the final period by outscoring Lewis County 16-8 in the final eight minutes of action to take the 69-44 win. Dyer Barnes ended the night as high scorer for the Panthers with 17, Hunter Smith and Austin Shepherd each had 6, Wyatt Bosheers had 5, Bryson Clayburn and Kyle Holcomb 4 each, and Steele Moseley had 2.
