December 13, 1951
Fred Pollock was released from a hospital in Japan after being wounded with shrapnel. He was transferred from Artillery to Quartermaster Corps and stationed in Korea.
After receiving numerous complaints about hogs being kept in the city, the Hohenwald Mayor and City Council agreed to enforce City Ordinance 179, passed in 1942, which prohibited the keeping of hogs within city limits. Residents had until January 1, 1952, to dispose of their hogs or face a fine.
The L.C.H.S. band was scheduled to give a concert at the High School auditorium on December 13, 1951 at 7:30 p.m. It was announced that the L.C.H.S. Girls Ensemble would also sing during the program.
Both Bobby Pollock and Eddie Whittenburg were promoted to rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
A number of Veterans were planning to organized a Disabled Veterans Club here. An organizational meeting was called for December 18.
The LCHS Panthers defeated Mt. Pleasant with a score of 29 to 27.
Funeral services were held for Sarah Anderson, 89; and for Rufus Pollock, 62.
Advertised specials this week at McClearen’s Grocery included Miracle Whip salad dressing for the price of $0.66 a quart, Folger’s Coffee for $0.83 a pound, and a one-pound box of Sunshine chocolate covered cherries for $0.59.
“Quicksand,’ starring Mickey Rooney, and “Captive of Billy the Kid,” starring Rocky Lane and Penny Edwards, were the Friday and Saturday night films showing at the Strand Theatre.
December 16, 1961
Arthur Ray was elected to serve as Executive Director of the Hohenwald Housing Authority at a meeting of the Authority Commissioners held on Saturday, December 09.
Carla Scheiwiller represented MLEC in the Miss Rural Electrification contest held in Nashville on December 12, 1961. Although not finishing with first place honors, Scheiwiller was selected Miss Congeniality.
The American Legion Post 127 was scheduled to hold a turkey shoot on December 21 at Memorial Park. Proceeds would be used for the Big Brother fund for the needy in the county.
The LCHS Panthers defeated Collinwood with a score of 49 to 45. Terry Hickerson was the top scorer for the team with 15 points. The LCHS girls basketball team defeated Collinwood with a score of 52 to 32. Paula Curry led the team in scoring with 22 points.
William Worrell was a member of the 77th Ordnance Company football team which won the Coleman Barracks sub-region touch football championship in Mannheim, Germany.
W. H. Boyce was honored for his 90th birthday with a dinner at his home in Riverside.
Funeral services were held for Felix Fleig, infant; James Henley, Jr., infant; and for John Calvin Potts, 96, whose obituary listed him as the oldest resident in Lewis County.
“Misty,” starring David Ladd, and “Master of the World,” starring Vincent Price and Charles Bronson, were the Saturday-night double feature shown at both the Highlands Drive-In and Strand Theatre.
December 16, 1971
The first meeting of the Tennessee State Society of the American Radiography Technologists was held at the Golden Saddle Restaurant on December 4.
The 1971 Christmas Parade was scheduled for this night and would feature at least 17 floats, 4 bands, antique cars, clowns, and more.
Robert C. Haraden, Superintendent of the Natchez Trace Parkway reminded the public that plant removal was not allowed on the Parkway.
A surprise birthday party was given for Annie Mitchell to celebrate her 84th birthday.
Dr. and Mrs. Ivan Krohn placed an ad in the paper to announce that they would be leaving on December 24th to visit relatives over the holidays and would return home on January 2, 1972.
Annie Mitchell was honored for her 84th birthday with a surprise party held at her home on North Walnut.
Funeral services were held for Ozie Crowell, 63; and for Lera Hinson, 74.
“The Year of the Cannibals,’ starring Brit Ekland and Pierre Clementi, and “Viva Las Vegas,” starring Elvis Presley and Ann Margaret, were the Friday and Saturday night double feature at the Highlands Drive-In.
December 17, 1981
The Candystripers at LCHS visited Lewis County Manor on December 14 to present gifts to the residents of the nursing care facility.
Plaques were presented to Kenny Graves, Principal of Hohenwald Elementary East, and June Baldwin, Principal of Hohenwald Elementary West, by Assistant Extension Agent Paula Ellis in recognition of their continued support of the Lewis County 4-H program.
The Early Bird Home Demonstration Club visited Cheekwood Botanical Gardens on December 09.
Mr. and Mrs. Bluford Warren announced the birth of their daughter, Valerie Renee.
The LCHS Pantherettes defeated McEwen with a score of 51 to 49 in overtime play. Kathy Dye was the top scorer for the team with 20 points.
Funeral services were held for Maude Halbrooks, 81; and for Louise Hensley, 77.
“Halloween II,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis, was the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night movie showing at the Highlands Drive-In Theatre.
December 12, 1991
Frank Lawson was the Grand Marshall of the 1991 Christmas Parade held December 5.
The Hohenwald City Council met in a special called meeting to discuss the gas rate structure and an operating loss in the Gas Department over the past two years. The major portion was attributed to a tack on fee by supplier, Tenneco Gas. The City Council voted to raise rates. This was the first
Captain Robert Rawdon, Jr. was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in aerial flight as a pilot while participating in Operation Desert Storm.
A benefit show was scheduled for the Rod Brasfield Community Playhouse on December 14 to raise money for the upkeep of the playhouse. Titled “Songs that Made the Jukebox Play,” the country music program was announced as including the following Lewis Countians: Bill Hankins, Walt Hankins, Ray Talley, and Mike Webb.
The L.C.H.S. Band and Choir were scheduled to present a program of Christmas music on December 15 at the high school gymnasium.
James Brewer enlisted in the U. S. Army.
The L.C.H.S. Panthers defeated Giles County with a score of 67 to 66. Lee Burklow was top scorer with 27 points and captured the win for the team with two free throws with 6 seconds remaining. The Panthers also defeated Loretto with a score of 75 to 62. Mark Graves was led the team in scoring with 21 points.
The following births were announced: Kelsey, daughter of Michael and Betty McDonald; Jessica Charae, daughter of Joey and Melody Hinson; and Davina Marie, Steven and Marqua Clayton.
Ethel Holt was honored for her 99th birthday with a dinner held at the Pineview Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held for Willie Ann Ernst, 71; Imogene Melton, 70; and for Mary Pevahouse, 78.

The trial for the man charged in the shooting death of a Hohenwald Police offer was slated for February 2002 in the 21st Judicial District Circuit Court in Williamson County.
David Adcox was elected Chair of the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) for 2002. PMAA is the nation’s largest trade group representing independent petroleum marketers.
The Magnolia Blossom was featured in the Chamber Spotlight column.
Catherine Davis was featured in the Teacher Spotlight column.
The LCHS Panthers defeated Giles County with a score of 62 to 56. Kyle Clayburn was the top scorer for the team with 22 points.
The Lady Panthers defeated Marshall County with a score of 56 to 54. Autumn Brewer led the team in scoring with 10 points.
Rubye Hooper was honored for her 90th birthday with a party held at the Hohenwald Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held for Mamie Johnston, 93; and for Bessie Morgan, 98.
