Covid numbers in Lewis County and when you can be vaccinated
Lewis County now has 94 active cases, 30 hospitalized and 20 deaths as of Monday, January 4, which is 46 new cases and 1 new death since last week. However, it is not all doom and gloom as 90 percent of Lewis County's cases have recovered. As of the first of January, nearly 250 people have been vaccinated in Lewis County. Vaccine availability is determined on a daily basis due to the limited supply and high demand, according to Lewis County Health Department Director Sarah Russell.
Slippery roads cause more than three hours of traffic delay
An unexpected and wet snow fell fast, and covered everything quickly on Thursday afternoon, January 7th, leaving salt and brine trucks struggling to keep up. Many were stuck on Highway 412 East, just past the Maury County line, after a Maury County TDOT truck and other vehicles slipped off the road and had trouble getting back on it. Some reported being stuck on the hill for over three hours with the line backing up nearly all the way to Hampshire. True to the old saying, "if the snow lays for three days, there's another one coming soon behind it," another snow fell over the weekend, closing schools Monday and Tuesday.
Friends of the Library nears major milestone in Library Expansion Project
Friends of the Library announced that with recent donations and fundraisers, nearly $100,000 has been secured toward the library expansion project. Kicking off with a small book and beverage sale in October, fundraising efforts began in earnest to pursue this multi-year financial goal. Ending the year with an online silent auction and registering for online donation services such as AmazonSmile, Kroger Community Rewards, and GoFundMe Charity has provided the groundwork for this important addition to Lewis County Public Library and Archives.
TCAT making progress on new addition

Director Pace gives Commission update on new high school
"We've been planning for fifteen years to build a new high school, and we've been good stewards and saved our money. We've been able to save ten million dollars. We knew if we could get that local sales tax, we'd be able to build our new school with little financial impact on the community but it failed, as we all know.. So we had to look into other means of financing it," said Pace before pausing to hear an announcement of a tornado warning come through the scanner.
Pace announced that the most viable option for funding the new school would be by partnering with Vance Hamilton with the USDA for a loan. "It's a good possibility for us. We're in a pre-application process right now and we're looking at a 2.1 percent loan for forty years.
