Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner recently announced to the County Commission that the Lewis County Jail has been awarded a $200,000 fully-funded grant by the Tennessee Department of Health.

The grant application was successfully written by Captain Christie Moore, and the funds will be used to provide upgrades and make various improvements at the jail, in response to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Among the items Sheriff Dwayne Kilpatrick and Jail Administrator Josh Keltner plan to use the grant money on include a new handwashing station and large storage unit in the sally port area.

They also plan to purchase multiple Ultraviolet C (UVC) devices for the inmate housing units and lobby area, along with additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and computers and printers to expand the Jail and Court System's ability to provide video arraignment and court hearing opportunities.
