A Note from the Trustee's Office

January 27, 2022

I hope this finds everyone well and staying warm, winter has surely made itself known this year.

I’m thankful to report we had no findings in the Trustee’s office from our annual audit by the Comptrollers Office. We work hard to perform the duties you have entrusted us with to the very best of our ability, and we thank you for that trust.

As of this writing we currently have $1,882,225.10 on our tax aggregate in unpaid 2021 property taxes. The deadline to pay without penalty is February 28, 2022. Delinquent property taxes still outstanding is $74,211.99.

There is a lot of important information located on a property tax bill. I try to include as much as space allows. There is always your assessed value, there is information about the tax relief program, payment methods accepted, office hours, as well as delinquent notices. While there is no statutory law requiring counties to provide property tax bills, most all 95 counties throughout the state of Tennessee provides them.

We do have a drop box at the north side of the courthouse that I requested to be put in for your convenience. It is checked every day, and we can remit to you a receipt if you’ll include a self-addressed stamped envelope. This can also be used for any other payments such as solid waste. Please do not leave payments for city taxes or utilities in the drop box.

February 28th is perhaps the busiest day of the year for us since it is the last day to pay property taxes without penalty. While masks are not required in the office, we will try to insure social distancing as best we can. The line is normally long and we respectfully ask for your patience and understanding. If your unsure about coming in on that day, you can take advantage of the drop box, mail in your payment, pay online, or by phone by calling 1-866-348-7525, you may also drop off your payment at the Bank located 526 East Main St.

As always it is an honor and privilege to serve Lewis County, and I thank you for that opportunity.
