Third grade basketball action

The 3rd Grade Lewis County Panthers Tennessee Valley Basketball Association team traveled to Florence, Alabama on Saturday, January 15th for games at Rogers High School against Mars Hill and Lauderdale County.

The Panthers faced Mars Hill in their first game of the day and played a close opening half as the teams matched baskets early. Lewis County went on a scoring run late in the opening half and took an 11-7 lead in at the break. In the second half the Panthers came out on fire as they outscored the Mars Hill (AL) team 22-8 down the final stretch of the game to secure a 33-16 win. Kanon McDonald led the Panthers with 10 points, Kayden O’Neal added 8 points, Dominick James 6, Michael Adkins 2, Carter Creasy 2, Haven Ray 2, Cash Creasy 2, and Cooper Johnston 1 point.

In their second game of the day, Lewis County faced the team from Lauderdale County (AL). The two teams were evenly matched from the opening tip. Lewis County and Lauderdale County went back and forth for the entire first half and the score was tied at 14 as the teams went into the break. The Panther’s defense entered the second half with more intensity as they held the Lauderdale County boys to only 5 second-half points and pulled away to take the win 25-19. Kanon McDonald had 9 points in the win to lead Lewis County in scoring, Dominick James had 6, Kayden O’Neal 5, Cooper Johnston 3, and Haven Ray 2.


The Lewis County TVBA Panthers went 2-0 on the day at Rogers High School.

The 3rd Grade Lewis County Panthers Tennessee Valley Basketball Association team traveled to Muscle Shoals, Alabama on Saturday, January 8th for games at Muscle Shoals Middle School against Muscle Shoals and Brooks.


In the first game of the day, the Panthers took on the team from Muscle Shoals (AL). Muscle Shoals was tough from the opening tip of the game. Lewis County would fall behind early as Muscle Shoals doubled-up the Panthers in the first half 16-8. The Panthers would battle back in the second half, but Muscle Shoals proved to be too strong as they outscored Lewis County 11-7 in the second to take a 27-15 win over the Panthers. Cooper Johnston would lead Lewis County with 8 points in the game, Kanon McDonald added 4 points, Kayden O’Neal 2 points, and Dominick James 1 point.

The Panthers faced the team from Brooks (AL) in their second game of the day. The Panther again found themselves falling behind early as Brooks pulled out in front in the first quarter on their way to taking a 14-4 lead in at the half. The second half was more of the same as Brooks continued to extend their lead against the Panthers and cruised their way through the second en route to a 28-12 victory over Lewis County. Haven Ray and Dominick James led Lewis County with 4 points each, and Kanon McDonald and Carter Creasy each added 2.

Lewis County was 0-2 on the day at Muscle Shoals.

The 3rd Grade Lewis County Panthers Tennessee Valley Basketball Association team returned to Rogers High School in Florence, Alabama on Saturday, January 29th for games against the two teams from Killen, Alabama, Brooks Orange and Brooks White.

The first game of the day for the Panthers was versus Brooks (AL) orange. Lewis County stormed out of the gate in the first half of the game putting up 11 points in the half and limiting Brooks to one lone basket and held an 11-2 lead as the teams left the floor at halftime. Brooks Orange would mount a strong comeback in the second half of the matchup as they scored 12 points in the period, but Lewis County would hold, on scoring 6 in the final minutes to secure a 17-14 win in their first game of the day. Haven Ray led the Panthers with 7 points, Carter Creasy and Kanon McDonald each had 4 points, and Kayden O’Neal had 2.

In their second game of the day the Panthers would take on the Brooks (AL) White. The first half was a fast-paced period of action that saw Brooks White double up Lewis County and take a 14-7 lead in at the break. The Panthers would fight back in the second quarter, but Brooks White matched the Panthers basket for basket down the stretch and the first half lead would hold for Brooks as the Panthers dropped the final 24-17. Kanon McDonald led Lewis County with 10 points in the loss, Cooper Johnston added 4 points, and Dominick James had 3 points.

Lewis County finished the day 1-1 in TVBA action.
