Girl Scouts learn womens history

March 24, 2022

Girl Scout Daisy Troop 1521 and Brownie Troop 3033 had a discussion about women's history. We talked about Katherine Johnson's contribution to the NASA Space program from 1953 until her retirement in 1986.

Mrs. Johnson was a very talented mathematician. Her contributions included the correct trajectory for Alan Sheppard to be the first American in space and for John Glenn to become the first American to orbit the earth a year later.

This was remarkable because she was a woman and she was a black woman. She was given the Medal of Honor by President Obama. She died at the age of 101 years in 2021.
