William "Bill" Austin Skelton

February 29, 1936 - May 12, 2022

Bill Skelton, a resident of Hohenwald, passed from this life on to his eternal home on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the age of eighty-six.

Bill was born in Hohenwald on February 29, 1936, to Albert Harrison Skelton and Bessie Ann (Fain) Skelton, and was one of thirteen children. He married the love of his life and his best friend, Lucy Davidson, and together they raised their family. Bill was retired from the United States Air Force. He served his country proudly during his time and was a true patriot. After his retirement from the USAF, Bill worked at Stauffer Chemical Company in Mt. Pleasant, TN, for a number of years. He eventually retired altogether and became an avid gardener and piddler at home. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. He got more joy out of taking care of Mrs. Lucy than anything else. He cared for her until her passing in 2019. Above all, Bill was a Christian. He and Lucy were members of the Hohenwald Church of Christ and worshipped there as often as they could.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Skelton, and eleven brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, Philip (Michelle) Skelton of Hodgenville, KY; daughters, Deborah (Doug) Skelton Johnston of Madison, AL, and Kristy Skelton Rupe of Huntsville, AL; and grandchildren, Chandler Skelton, Kyndall Skelton, Olivia Johnston, Jack Rupe, and Morgan Rupe; one great-grandson, Elijah Skelton; and one sister, Doris "Dot" Osborne.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel. Greg Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at the Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:00 and continue until service time also at the McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald.
